Biography
Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma, is the flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP). She was born on February 5, 1956, in Accra. She began her education at Mfantsiman Girls' Secondary School in Saltpond before pursuing a Diploma in Business Studies from Kumasi Polytechnic.
Her pursuit of further education led her to the United States, where she studied at the Washington School for Secretaries, Montgomery Community College, and later, Notre Dame University.
Nana Frimpomaa's career began with her role as National Organizer for the 31st December Women's Movement, a pioneering group that championed women’s rights in Ghana. As one of the movement's five founding members, she contributed significantly to its early strategies and operations, setting a foundation for her future work in advocacy.
Her professional journey expanded internationally as she worked in the United States with organizations such as Working Mothers Incorporated and Optimum Care Agency, where she led teams in employment services and nursing care.
Beyond her professional work, she ventured into academia by helping to develop the curriculum for the Early Childhood Department at the University of Maryland, which integrated babysitting into undergraduate studies—a program that remains active today. Her passion for youth empowerment led her to establish Caring Kids International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education for children and youth in Ghana.
On September 12, 2024, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, filed her nomination to contest the 2024 general elections after winning the flagbearership of her party, the CPP. She was subsequently cleared by the Electoral Commission to contest presidential polls alongside 12 other candidates.
Following the death of the Ghana Freedom Party’s candidate, Kumankuma became the only female president in the 2024 presidential race among a crowded field of men.
