Biography
Akua Donkor is a Ghanaian politician, founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
She was born in February 1952, and hails from Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
A farmer by profession, Akua Donkor’s political journey began after she was elected assembly woman for Herman. Her ambition to be president is evident in the 2012 polls where she applied to contest as an independent candidate. However, she was disqualified by the Electoral Commission who said she did not meet the requirements set for the election.
In 2016, she was disqualified again by the Electoral Commission (EC) on the basis that her nomination forms were freight with errors.
In 2020, Madam Akua Donor was among the three female presidential candidates cleared to contest the 2020 presidential elections. She came fifth out of the 12 candidates that contested.
In September 2024, Madam Akua Donkor successfully filed her nomination to contest the 2024 presidential elections and was cleared among 13 candidates to run for the presidency. However, she passed away on October 28 2024. Despite her passing, Akua Donkor remains on the ballot due to the disqualification of her replacement, Philip Kwabena Agyeman who was her running mate at the time of her death.
