Mali gets new president as opposition concedes defeat

Even though no official results have yet been announced for Sunday's presidential elections runoff, reports confirm earlier opinion poll that former Malian Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita popularly called IBK is well ahead.

According to the BBC on Monday, Ex-Finance Minister Soumaila Cisse has conceded defeat and congratulated his rival IBK on winning the vote and wished him good luck.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris, reporting outside Keita's headquarters in Bamako, says the news of his win was just filtering in and there seem to be celebrations already taking place as some international observers were seen congratulating Keita.

IBK who campaingned on a pledge to restore Mali's battered dignity, has a huge task of uniting the country and also negotiate a lasting peace with northern Tuareg separatists as well as tackle corruption.
