Zimbabwe: Citizen Platform for elections reporting deployed
An online reporting platform which allows citizens and observers to watch, comment and debate on the current and post electoral processes of Zimbabwe has been deployed by the votewatch263 group in Zimbabwe to enhance citizen participation in the harmonized elections slated for July 31 2013.
The online resource which is a customisation of the Ushahidi platform is “motivated by the fact that the majority of the Zimbabwean populace is inhibited by law from accessing basic information on critical national processes, which in any democratic society is critical in assisting them make critical and informed decisions.” VoteWatch263
The platform will allow citizens to participate in watching and rating the elections online and through mobile applications such whatsapp and text messaging (SMS) under the following categories; Access to information; Freedom of expression; Journalist/Media attacks; Voting; Post voting issues; reporting others issues such as civil society attacks and citizen attacks.
