Kenya: CORD Files Poll Petition
The Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) has filed a petition with the Supreme Court of Kenya seeking to challenge last week’s declaration of poll results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Isaack Hassan, in which Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee coalition was confirmed the president-elect following the March 4 poll.
The Supreme Court’s Chief Registrar, Gladys Boss Sholei confirmed the filing of the petition and stated that the preparations for the hearing will take nine days. She further added that the case which will be heard from March 25 will only be heard for two days to March 26.
She also gave conditions for the press to cover the proceedings. Sholei said that only one media station will be allowed to record the proceeding and will share the signal with all other media houses. Additionally, Sholei said that the print media will be required to appoint two reporters to take minutes of the proceedings.
The registrar further said that only four lawyers and nine other people will be allowed in the Supreme Court chambers during the proceedings.
