Angola: National Electoral Commission says it is ready for Tomorrow polls

According to National Electoral Commission (CNE) all is set for the Angola legislative elections scheduled for tomorrow 31 August contrary to criticism voiced by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA); the main opposition party asking to postpone the vote.

Isaias Samakuva, leader of UNITA, had claimed that “incompetence” of the CNE and the interference of the ruling party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, would lead to opaque and irregular elections and wants a postponement of the elections by one month.

Adding credence to the statement by CNE, the spokeswoman of the Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) in Cabinda, Isabel de Fátima, on Tuesday confirmed that all necessary materials for the August 31 general elections are in the province, adding that the materials have already been distributed to the 496 voting stations.
