Mali: Coup Leader promises Elections in a short time

Capt. Amadou Sanogo, the leader of the ongoing military coup in Mali announced Friday, he has no intention of retaining his hold on power and as soon the country has a functional army and security forces available to assume the nation’s security they will be able to say 'Ok, go for an election' in a short period of time. I promise."
The National Assembly have issued a statement demanding an immediate return to constitutional order, the opening of all borders, the release of all arrested government officials and for elections to go ahead as planned on the 29th of April 2012.
Leaders of the coup in Mali faced increasing pressure on Monday as Malian lawmakers and opposition figures joined forces to call for them to go and Tuareg rebels closed in on a key northern town. In Bamako, still tensed days after the coup, several hundreds of people gathered at a meeting of 38 political parties who announced the formation of a united front against the junta. The African Union has also suspended Mali temporarily from of the continent wide body.
