Senegal Elections heads for 2nd round

Senegal is to hold a second round of presidential elections after incumbent president, Abdoulaye Wade failed to win outright, election officials have confirmed.

Mr. Wade gained 34.8% of the vote in Sunday's first round votes and he will face his former prime minister Macky Sall, who came second with 26.5%.

The other leading candidates who were also former prime ministers under Wade, Moustapha Niasse and Idrissa Seck had 13.2% and 7.8% respectively.

Going by the constitution of Senegal, the likely date of the second round will be the 25th of March 2012.
