Senegal: Opposition Calls for More Rallies as Court Rejects Appeal

The Highest court in Senegal on late Sunday upheld an earlier ruling that the incumbent president Abdoulaye Wade was eligible to run for a third term in the upcoming election, scheduled to be held next month, and dismissed the appeals filed by the opposition.

The Constitutional Council, appointed by Wade, had announced on Friday that the president's renewed candidacy bid is valid, which sparked deadly riots in the West African nation, leaving one policeman dead in the capital Dakar.

The opposition leaders, who are united under the June 23 Movement (M23), warned President Wade on Sunday that the time for talking is over, and called for mass protests in the next few days.
