Sao Tome and Principe: Results of first round released

An inevitable second run is expected between Manuel Pinto da Costa, a former leader of the island and Evaristo Carvalho president of the island’s parliament on July 24th this year.

Since none of the candidates attained an absolute majority, the Electoral Commission on Monday declared a runoff to decide a clear winner. In all 10 candidates participated in the polls.

Results released by the electoral management body are; Pinto da Costa - 35.85% , Evaristo Carvalho – 21.82% , Maria das Neves – 14.03% , Delfim Neves - 13.89% and Elsa Pinto - 4.55%.

The other results are; Aurelio Martinez - 4.15%, Muller Costa Alegre - 4.14% , Jorge Coelho - 0.64% , Helder Barros - 0.63%, Manuel de Deus Lima - 0.35%
