Nigeria: First four-year term for Jonathan

Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan has been sworn-in as president of Nigeria for a new four-year term at Eagle Square in Abuja.

At the investiture, the 56 year old president promised to unite the nation and improve the living standards of all peoples whether in the North or in the South; in the East or in the West and proclaimed that the decade of development has begun.

The inauguration which began with a military parade and inspection was well attended by a host of African leaders and other foreign heads of state.
Mr Jonathan, who won nearly 60% of the votes in the recently held elections, has a daunting task of uniting the divided oil-rich nation after post-elections riots in the northern parts of Nigeria.
