PDP leads in National Assembly Polls

Minor political parties in Nigeria have made significant impact on the political terrain in this year’s National Assembly polls as compared to previous elections.

Though the ruling PDP takes the lead in Saturday’s polls, some prominent PDP senators failed in their bid to win a re-election, including the speaker of the House of Representatives,  losing their seats to ACN and CPC candidates who have penetrated into the strongholds of the ruling party.

According to INEC, out of the 65 seats declared for the upper chamber, PDP has secured 36 seats and 53 seats out of the 102 seats in the lower chamber.

Hitherto, PDP controlled up to about 77% of the House of Representatives, but this election has changed the make-up of the House.

Polls were held in about 85% of the country, the remaining will be done on 26th April.
