Polls open in Cameroon as President Biya seeks seventh term

Polls have opened in Cameroon with President Paul Biya seeking a seventh term and also steer the affairs of the Central African nation for the next 7 years.

President Biya has been in power since 1982, making him one of Africa's longest-serving rulers. He faces some unified opposition parties under leadership of Maurice Kamto of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC).

it is generally opined that the outcome of this election is very critical to the stability of the country as any irregularities may plunge the country into a civil war.

Polling stations opened at 8am (07:00GMT) and will close at 6pm (17:00GMT) with more than six million people eligible to cast their ballots.

This election is critical to the stability of the country.
