#ZimElections: Prez Mnangagwa survives a bomb attack

A bomb blast by an unknown group nearly claimed the life of President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa during his first political rally campaign last Saturday 23 June 2018 at the White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the explosion, President Mnangagwa stated that the bomb exploded few inches away from where he stood. He also added “this was an attempt to end his life ahead of the 2018 presidential polls slated for the 30th of July this year.”

So far 8 top officials have sustained injuries with two reported other people dead from the bomb explosion. 49 others sustained severe injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

In an interview with BBC’s Fergal Kaene, President Mnangagwa stated that he suspected the G40 group which supported the Grace Mugabe Presidency launched that attack on him.

This year’s elections in Zimbabwe will be the first to transpire after the overthrow of ex-President Mugabe and it is hinged on finding ways to reverse the economic woes of the country.
