#SierraLeone: President Bio Sets a Cross Party Committee to Address Post Elections Violence

Since the declaration of President elect, Maada Bio as winner of the just ended Seirra Leone elections by National Elections Commission (NEC) of Sierra Leone, the country has been plunged into post-elections violence between supporters of the All Peoples Congress (APC) and the Sierra Leonne People’s Party (SLPP).

Reports reaching AEP indicates that more than 3,000 supporters of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party in the northern parts of Sierra Leone have been forced to flee their homes and also there have been sustained attacks on opposition party supporters in other parts of the country since incumbent President Julius Maada Bio was declared president elect.

On Saturday 7th April, Presidential candidate of the losing APC party together with some members of his party visited the residence of President Maada Bio where a meeting was held to address the increasing level of violence in the country after the Presidential run off which took place on the 31st of March.

The newly sworn in President, President Maada Bio after the meeting has formed a cross-party committee to address all issues of violence in the country. The new committee according to the President is to be headed by the leadership of the APC and SLPP to address all matters of Post Electoral Violence in Sierra Leone. The President further called on the committee to work hand-in-hand with the police to investigate and arrest all persons who were caught in violent acts.
