#KenyaElections: - All Institutions Ready for Elections - Kenyata
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has assured the European Union Election Observation Mission all institutions involved in ensuring a successful elections slated for 8 August are ready.
“The elections will be held on August 8 as required by the constitution. The government has taken steps to ensure Kenyans exercise their democratic right and choose their leaders without interference,” he said, assuring the polls will be peaceful.
“We have also taken measures to ensure the polls are credible, free and fair and that the country is safe before and after.”
The President made these assertions during a courtesy call the State House in Nairobi by the head the EU Election Observation Mission to Kenya Marietje Schaake.
The EU observers will meet other presidential candidates to hear their views on the polls.
Schaake said her team is happy with the preparations and is keen to ensure Kenyans participate in an exercise that is all-inclusive, fair and credible.
The 2017 Kenyan presidential elections will be another two-horse race between Raila Odinga and the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta. Since the bloody aftermath of the 2007 elections, Kenya has adopted a progressive constitution that devolved the system of power and mandated the distribution of resources to counties.
