Mali sets date for peace forum amid resistance
The safe keeping situation in Mali remains to be of apprehension, a new peace forum is expected to be held from March 27- April 2, 2017.
The forum is projected to bring together all quarreling parties in the country and challenges that continue to plague the Algerian-brokered peace promise signed between an alliance of Tuareg-led rebels and the Malian government in June 2015.
Rendering to French news portal RFI, the forum will be peace, unity and understanding and the parties will be expected to form a new charter.
But the dates set by the government has outstretched eyebrows among the opposition and some armed groups.
They would like the meeting to be postponed citing concerns that it will not be all-inclusive.
The UN says security in Mali remains disturbing despite recent troop deployments and some progress on the 2015 peace accord.
