#SierraLeone: Election dates tabled in Parliament
The Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Nanette Thomas, has on Tuesday 14th March 2017, tabled two statutory instruments in the Parliament of Sierra, regarding the dates for the conduct of presidential, legislative, and local council elections, proclaimed by President Koroma, and the Chief Electoral Commissioner, N’fah Conteh on the 07th March, 2018.
The following statutory instruments were tabled by the Minister:
I.“The Parliamentary Election (Appointment of Dates) Proclamation 2017. The Public Elections Act, 2012 (Act No. 4 of 2012). Statutory Instrument No. 8 of 2017” and
II.“The Presidential Election (Appointment of Dates) Proclamation 2017. The Public Elections Act, 2012 (Act No. 4 of 2012). Statutory Instrument No. 9 of 2012”.
In accordance with Section 170 sub-sections 1c & 7a, b, & c of Act No. 6 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, statutory instrument is part of the laws of Sierra Leone, having due regard for its tabling in Parliament, publication in the Gazette and become law after a period of 21-days, until otherwise annulled by two-thirds of votes cast by Members of Parliament.
