Uganda votes in general elections tomorrow

[AEP] Ugandans will go the polls tomorrow to elect a president, parliamentarians and local reps in a national and local elections.

Polls will open on 7am local time and will close at 4pm. However, voters in queues at the polling stations before the 4pm deadline will be allowed to vote.

The presidential race is seen as a three-way battle between long-term incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement and two top opposition candidates – Kizza Besigye (Forum for Democratic Change) and Amama Mbabazi (Go Forward). There are 8 candidates in the presidential race with only 1 female.

The Electoral Commission (EC) will, for the first time, use the Biometric Technology in the 28,010 polling stations with 15.2 million Voters (8,027,803 Female and 7,249,394 Male voters) eligible to vote.

A total of 1747 candidates are contesting for presidential and parliamentary elections. Experts have predicted another win for President Museveni, whose has already been in power for 30 years. Issues that will affect the voters' decision at the ballot includes job creation for the youth dominated population, development of the country’s oil reserves, security among others.
