Kumasi police retrieve thumb printed ballot papers from hotel room

A local Graphiconline news portal has reported that, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) had reported to the police that he had information that thousands of thumb printed presidential ballot papers had been hidden at Madison Lodge at TUC in Kumasi.

ballot-papers-fake-kumasiFollowing that, the police mobilized and stormed the Lodge around 7:00 am Monday 5th December, 2016.

After a search they discovered three bags containing thousands of thumb printed election 2016 ballot papers.

They later picked up the receptionist for questioning.

The three bags have since been carried to the Kumasi Central Police station for further investigations.

Verdict: Misleading

Explanation: Papers not genuine

Checks undertaken by the African Elections Project fact-checking team reveal that, the story is misleading. The ballot papers found at the Lodge does not have serial numbers and therefore are not authentic.
